That can miss useful clues. The cab is where an operator spends a full shift, and its condition often shows how carefully the machine has been used and maintained. Before agreeing a price, ask for a few current photos and a short video taken from the operator’s seat with the machine running.

A current cab photo is useful when it shows the controls rather than only a distant exterior view.

1. Start with the key, display and warning lights

Ask to see the monitor before the engine starts, then again after it is running. The screen should power on clearly and the normal warning lights should appear briefly during the self-check. If a warning stays on, ask for a close photo of the symbol or fault code rather than relying on a verbal explanation. A working hour meter is useful, but it should be considered together with the general wear on the controls, pedals and seat.

2. Move every control, not only the joysticks

The operator should move both joysticks slowly, use the travel levers or pedals, select the work modes and test the safety lockout. Look for controls that feel unusually loose, do not return smoothly or have cracked rubber boots. A little wear on a working machine is normal. The concern is when several switches, buttons or levers have been bypassed, taped up or do not respond.

3. Run the air conditioning long enough to judge it

For buyers in hot climates, a quick cold blast at the vent is not a complete air-conditioning test. Ask the operator to run the system for around ten minutes with the doors and windows closed. Check that the fan speeds change, air reaches the front vents and the cab begins to cool rather than only blowing cold air for a moment. Also look below the cab for normal condensate drainage and ask whether the cabin filter was recently cleaned or replaced.

4. Check visibility from the seat

From the operator’s position, the front windshield, side glass and mirrors should provide a clear view of the working area. Cloudy glass, damaged window seals or a cracked door latch can be a small repair, but they matter for daily use and for transport. If the machine has a rear camera, request a photo of the monitor while reverse view is selected. It is better to verify the camera in the video than assume it works because it is listed in the specification.

5. Look at the seat, belt and cab floor

Seat condition is more than cosmetic. Check whether the suspension adjusts, the seat slides on its rails and the seat belt clips securely. Lift the rubber mat or ask for a close photo around the pedals and floor corners. Standing water, heavy rust or a strong smell inside the cab may point to a leaking window seal, blocked drain or long-term storage outside.

6. Test the smaller electrical items

Wipers, washer pump, horn, interior light, work lights and 12V socket are easy to overlook in a quick walk-around. They are also simple to test while the machine is already running. A seller does not need to promise that every small item is new; the useful thing is to record what works now and what should be allowed for in the maintenance budget.

7. Ask for one continuous cab video

A short, uncut video is usually more helpful than a group of close-up photos. Ask the operator to show the key-on screen, start the engine, operate the air conditioning, move the controls and select travel. Keep the video with the inspection photos and serial-number record. When two similar machines are being compared, this makes it much easier to judge the overall condition and ask focused follow-up questions.

Use the cab check in the final discussion

Cab wear alone does not decide whether an excavator is a good purchase. It does help show how the machine has been treated, and it prevents surprises after delivery. For available used excavators, we can provide current cab photos, running videos and inspection information before you confirm. View available machines or send us the model and destination you need.

It is easy to inspect a used excavator from the outside and leave the cab until the end.
