Used excavator dashboard working hours inspection

Working hours are an important reference when buying a used excavator, but buyers should not judge the machine only by the hour meter. For used construction machinery, the actual condition is often more important than the number shown on the dashboard.

When buying a used excavator from China, overseas buyers should check working hours together with photos, videos, undercarriage condition, engine performance, hydraulic action, and machine appearance.

1. Check the dashboard hour meter

The dashboard hour meter can show the recorded working hours. Buyers should request a clear photo or video of the dashboard when the machine is powered on.

2. Compare hours with machine condition

If a machine shows low hours but has heavy wear, damaged cabin, serious oil leakage, or very worn undercarriage, buyers should be careful. The machine condition should match the hour reading.

3. Check undercarriage wear

The undercarriage can show how heavily the excavator has been used. Buyers should check track chains, rollers, sprockets, track shoes, and idlers.

4. Check engine sound and smoke

A working video can help buyers hear the engine sound and see whether there is abnormal smoke. Cold start video is especially useful.

5. Check hydraulic movement

Boom, arm, bucket, swing, and walking functions should move smoothly. Slow or unstable movement may show hydraulic system problems.

6. Check serial plate and machine details

Serial plate information can help confirm machine identity and basic details. Buyers should request clear serial plate photos when available.

Working hours are useful, but they should not be the only decision factor. A machine with higher hours but good maintenance can sometimes be better than a low-hour machine in poor condition.
